Frizz never looked so chic as it did on Penny Lane, the rockstar groupie Kate Hudson played in the 2000 film Almost Famous. The star had the loose blonde curls to match her character's free-spirited '70s fashion sense (think shag fur coat and blue tinted glasses), all of which are worth re-creating. Plus with frizz season creeping up on us, we welcome wash-and-go curls like Penny Lane's. Except if you're into the curly hairstyle full of body but fear the sight of frizz, our step-by-step has you covered. Below we break down how to get the groupie-glam look according to fine to normal hair types and curly/wavy hair types.

For fine to normal hair types:

  1. Wash hair with OUAI Volume Shampoo and Conditioner
  2. Prep towel-dried hair with OUAI Wave Spray
  3. Dry hair on low to medium heat
  4. Spray OUAI Memory Mist Heat Protectant in sections on dry hair before curling with a 1/2-inch curling iron (tip: allow curls to cool for five minutes before touching)
  5. Set the curls and add volume with OUAI Volumizing Hair Spray

For naturally curly and wavy hair types:

  1. Wash hair with OUAI Curl Shampoo and Conditioner
  2. Depending on your texture, prep damp hair with OUAI Curl Jelly or OUAI Air Dry Foam
  3. Diffuse hair on low heat setting
  4. Optional: once dry, go in with a 1/2-inch curling iron to enhance the curls
  5. Use OUAI Finishing Crème to smooth curls as you see fit
