In your head age simply feels like a number, but when you notice gravity's power to droop skin and deepen wrinkles, it's a jarring reminder that time is your enemy. Call it vanity or self-care, the craving to stop the clock has become especially easy to satiate, thanks in large part to the real-life equivalent of Facetune: Alchemy 43, an aesthetics bar specializing in cosmetic microtreatments founded by corporate cosmetics veteran Nicci Levy. Think of it as the blowout bar of microtreatments—you enter, order from a menu, and get a quick beauty tune-up in the form of supermodel cheekbones, a plumper pout, and the list goes on. A holistic approach to enhancing your current beauty—from Botox and fillers to oxygen boosts and LED treatments—coupled with relatable marketing that helps demystify stigmatized microtreatments puts Alchemy 43 a few steps ahead in the beauty stakes. And with four LA locations and a NY spot opening soon, the spa is quickly dominating the microtreatments mega world.

If you've ever considered a noninvasive tweak with no down time, microtreatments might be your beauty routine's new best friend. Here Levy breaks down the business of microtreatments and answers all our burning questions about the ubiquitous primping practice including the 411 on Alchemy 43's Hello, Bright Eyes procedure which one member of the Jen Atkin squad tried for herself (keep scrolling for the before and after).

What are microtreatments?

We coined the term microtreatment to reference services that deliver natural results and are minimally invasive and easy to access. Our strategy is to deliver world class results and experiences via transparency and education. We believe that knowledge is power and by encouraging people to make informed decisions about aesthetic treatments, we will help to destigmatize what is fast becoming a very normal part of a person's’ aesthetic ritual. One way we do this is by debunking the many common misconceptions that are out there about injectables. Another is by encouraging users to tell their own, relatable stories. As more and more people come to understand that the treatments we offer are safe, temporary, and subtle, they become more open and curious about them. We are a safe and happy space to receive injectables and we are dedicated to changing the way people think about the world of aesthetics and setting a standard—not just within the walls of our stores, but across the board.

How do I know which microtreatment is right for me?

At your visit, we capture a few quick photos of your face using a 3D camera. These are then uploaded into a 3D image using state-of-the-art VECTRA® software. Your aesthetic consultant and practitioner then show you, on a 3D image of your own face, the different possibilities available via our services. This is all designed to show clients and prospective clients what the outcome of different microtreatments could look like. Many of our clients are new to injectables, and we want them to be fully aligned with the treatment plan and we want to ensure we are arming them with all the information they need to make an informed, empowered decision about whichever service they choose. The 3D consultation helps them make an educated decision based on their aesthetic goals and what makes sense for their budget.

The 3D consultation is complimentary and for educational purposes. Anyone can walk in to one of our location and receive one– and there is never any pressure to move forward with a service on the spot.

Who is a good candidate for the Hello, Bright Eyes?

This treatment is designed to kick tired eyes to the curb using wrinkle reducers, like Botox and Dysport. Anyone who wants to prevent or reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet and #11s (the creases between the eyebrows, also known as frown lines).

Who is not a good candidate for the Hello, Bright Eyes?

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not able to be treated with cosmetic injectables as well as some other medical conditions. Before performing any service, we make sure the client is medically appropriate for treatment.

Explain the role of each substance used in the Hello, Bright Eyes injectable.

Botox and Dysport (wrinkle reducers/neuromodulators) work by temporarily relaxing the muscles under the skin that are causing the creases or potential creases. We use them to help to prevent or reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and #11s and frown lines. Products like Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators examples of different brands of botulinum toxin type A. And in layman’s terms, they are both FDA-approved wrinkle reducers that are most often used to temporarily reduce/prevent moderate to severe lines in the forehead and around the eyes. Your provider will use their experience to suggest the product that they feel will deliver optimal results based on a variety of factors such as strength of the muscle, areas being treated and individual anatomy.

Approximately how long do the Hello, Bright Eyes results last?

Wrinkle reducers like Botox and Dysport are FDA approved to last up to four months at recommended dosing. That said, every client metabolizes injectable substances at their own unique pace. We recommend a quarterly cadence so once ever 3-4 months keeps you looking fresh year round, with no down time.

On a scale of 1-10, how bad does the Hello, Bright Eyes treatment hurt?

2-3. While everyone has a different pain threshold, this is a truly negligible pain level. I’d say getting a bikini wax hurts at least twice as much. For those who are nervous, we offer topical numbing cream.

How long does one injection take?

It depends on the type of service (wrinkle reducer vs. filler), where you are being treated, and what you are working to achieve. For someone who is coming in to soften slight frown lines between their brows, the procedure may take just 15 minutes. Meanwhile, a client who is getting a more comprehensive microtreatment (often that would mean a combination of Botox and fillers), it could take up to an hour.

Break down the average range of cost for microtreatments.

Typically, our treatments will range anywhere from $250-$1500. But if a client wants to come in to get a small introduction – for instance, a tiny enhancement to the Cupid’s Bow area of the lip, it could be as affordable as under $200. There is no one set price for our microtreatments. Every clients’ facial muscles and facial anatomy are unique and therefore requires unique dosing. Each service is completely customized. Typically, a Hello Bright Eyes will range anywhere from $250-$450. A Perfect Pout microtreatment typically ranges from $550-$750.

Which microtreatments will cause swelling, redness or scarring after the fact?

Swelling and bruising are common side effects with cosmetic injectables. These can be minimized by using oral arnica for a day or so before treatment, and also by avoiding fish oils, alcohol, and ibuprofen.

Which injections require routine touch-up and which injections are one and done?

All of our microtreatments are designed to be part of an ongoing skin wellness. Since these are things we do on a maintenance schedule, I wanted to create a destination that makes you feel happy, alive and comfortable. And no matter which store you go to – whether in LA, NYC (this spring!) or, eventually, other cities – you know exactly what to expect; every one of our practitioners is highly specialized and trained extensively to perform our microtreaments.

Do microtreatments have any negative side effects or downsides?

There is a risk to getting cosmetic injections. For more information, please visit Clients and prospective clients should be fully aware of all risk before deciding to proceed with a service.

What are some common misconceptions about microtreatments that you think are important to clear up?

There are SO many misconceptions about injectables, and it is my mission to debunk them and destigmatize the industry. Click here for my top 10.

Is there anything I should or shouldn’t do at home to prevent crow’s feet and frown lines?

Not really! It’s muscular and often hereditary. Preventative Botox treatments are the best way to avoid developing Crow’s Feet because you are addressing the muscle movement.

Do you have any favorite skincare products that help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in between appointments?

It’s a great idea to protect your investment at home. I am obsessed with great skincare and moisturizing! It doesn’t have to be fancy and expensive either, just a consistent regimen goes such a long way. Gently take your makeup off EVERY NIGHT before bed, even a makeup wipe if you don’t have time or energy to cleanse. I love skincare brands that are backed by  good science. My favorite moisturizer is SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex and I love our Glowtion from Lit Skin (pure medical grade Hyaluronic Acid, baby!) I also love the SKII Skin Essence.

What is the current most requested microtreatment at Alchemy 43?

Hello, Bright Eyes; Perfect Pout (lips); and Well Rounded (cheek contouring) are our most popular services! Cheek contouring is my absolute fave!
